Use Claude to Talk to Your Microsoft Planner Data via CData Connect Cloud

Leverage CData Connect Cloud Remote MCP to enable Claude to securely answer questions and take actions on your Microsoft Planner data for you.

Claude is a family of advanced large language models (LLMs) built by Anthropic, an AI research company founded in 2021. These models power the Claude conversational assistant and developer tools.

CData Connect Cloud offers a dedicated cloud-to-cloud interface for connecting to Microsoft Planner data. The CData Connect Cloud Remote MCP Server enables secure communication between Claude and Microsoft Planner. This allows you to ask questions and take actions on your Microsoft Planner data using Claude, all without the need for data replication to a natively supported database. With its inherent optimized data processing capabilities, CData Connect Cloud efficiently channels all supported SQL operations, including filters and JOINs, directly to Microsoft Planner. This leverages server-side processing to swiftly deliver the requested Microsoft Planner data.

Step 1: Configure Microsoft Planner Connectivity for Claude

Connectivity to Microsoft Planner from Claude is made possible through CData Connect Cloud Remote MCP. To interact with Microsoft Planner data from Claude, we start by creating and configuring a Microsoft Planner connection in CData Connect Cloud.

  1. Log into Connect Cloud, click Sources, and then click Add Connection
  2. Select "Microsoft Planner" from the Add Connection panel
  3. Enter the necessary authentication properties to connect to Microsoft Planner.

You can connect without setting any connection properties for your user credentials. Below are the minimum connection properties required to connect.

    • InitiateOAuth: Set this to GETANDREFRESH. You can use InitiateOAuth to avoid repeating the OAuth exchange and manually setting the OAuthAccessToken.
    • Tenant (optional): Set this if you wish to authenticate to a different tenant than your default. This is required to work with an organization not on your default Tenant.

When you connect the Driver opens the MS Planner OAuth endpoint in your default browser. Log in and grant permissions to the Driver. The Driver then completes the OAuth process.

    1. Extracts the access token from the callback URL and authenticates requests.
    2. Obtains a new access token when the old one expires.
    3. Saves OAuth values in OAuthSettingsLocation to be persisted across connections.
  4. Click Save & Test
